Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, Piers, and the Best Senior Week Photo Spots

The best Senior Week photo spots in Myrtle Beach: the boardwalk, SkyWheel, piers at sunrise, thrill rides and party nights, with a shot list and tips.

4 min readUpdated Oct 2026By Myrtle Beach Club Card

The best Senior Week photo spots in Myrtle Beach are the oceanfront boardwalk, the SkyWheel, and the piers at sunrise and sunset. Most of them are free and all of them are walkable from the beach. Here’s where to go, when to go, and how to get the shot your group chat will actually use.

The Boardwalk

The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is the backbone of any Senior Week photo plan. The City of Myrtle Beach says it originally stretched 1.2 miles pier to pier, and later additions extended it to 16th Avenue North for 1.3 miles in total (City of Myrtle Beach).

  • Best time: golden hour, the hour before sunset, when the light is warm and nobody is squinting.
  • The shot: the whole crew walking toward the camera on the wooden planks, with the ocean on one side.
  • Pro move: take one photo and one slow-motion video, so the group chat gets both.

Refuel on the walk: Moe Moons sits right on the boardwalk at 990 Boardwalk, and cardholders get 10% off the menu.

The SkyWheel

You’ll spot it from everywhere. The SkyWheel is 187 feet tall, with 42 glass-enclosed, temperature-controlled gondolas, at 1110 North Ocean Boulevard on the boardwalk (Visit Myrtle Beach).

From the ground

Shoot from the beach side at dusk, when the wheel’s lights pop against the sky.

From the top

Ride at sunset for the coastline shot. Wipe the glass and press your lens flat against it to cut glare.

The piers

Piers are where you get the classic “endless ocean” photo. The SC Department of Natural Resources lists these in the Myrtle Beach area:

Pier Address
2nd Avenue Pier 110 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach
Springmaid Pier 3200 S Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach State Park Pier 3301 S Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach
Apache Campground Fishing Pier 9700 Kings Rd, Myrtle Beach
Cherry Grove Pier 3500 N Ocean Blvd, North Myrtle Beach

The 2nd Avenue Pier anchors the south end of the original boardwalk stretch, which makes it easy to pair with a boardwalk walk. Pier hours and access rules vary, so check before you go.

Sunrise challenge: pick one morning, set one alarm, and walk to the nearest pier as a group. It’s the only photo of the week where everyone looks peaceful.

Thrill-ride reaction shots

Free Fall Thrill Park at 1201 N Ocean Blvd has the Sling Shot and the Skyscraper, two of the best “face-at-the-top” videos in town. Your Club Card gets 10% off the Sling Shot before 4 pm and $5 off the Skyscraper before 7 pm. Film from the ground and keep the crew’s reaction in frame.

North Myrtle Beach photo stops

  • Main Street: grab a treat at Southern Smoothies & Sweet Treats (308 Main St), where cardholders get a breakfast sandwich deal and 10% off, then shoot down the street toward the ocean.
  • Cherry Grove Pier: a classic wooden pier for sunset photos.
  • Banana boat action shot: New Wave Watersports (1701 S Ocean Blvd) offers rides for $25 with your card. Have one friend stay on the beach to film.

Night photos at the parties

The theme parties are made for photos: foam at Aqua, glow at LIT, snow machines at Snowfall, beads at Pardi Gras. Plan your outfits by night with the Senior Week 2027 schedule and the party guide, and bring a waterproof phone pouch for foam night.

The Senior Week shot list

Screenshot this and check them off as you go:

Day 1

Arrival photo with the whole crew on the sand, before anyone gets sunburned.

Golden hour

Boardwalk walk-toward-camera group shot.

Up high

SkyWheel gondola selfie with the coastline behind you.

Sunrise

Silhouettes at the end of a pier.

Thrill

Slow-mo reaction video on the Sling Shot.

Party night

Matching outfits for each theme: white, neon, beads, foam-ready.

Protect your phone

Sand, salt water and a dropped phone off a pier can end your photo week early. Use a waterproof pouch on the beach and at foam night, keep a lanyard or wrist strap on when you’re shooting over the pier railing, and back up your camera roll to the cloud every night. A small power bank in your pocket means you’ll still have battery for the sunset shot after a full beach day.

Group photo etiquette

Ask before you post someone, especially on party nights. Make a private shared album for everything and only post the best ones publicly. Rotate who holds the camera so the same friend isn’t missing from every photo. And when you ask a stranger to take one for you, offer to return the favor.

Quick photo tips

  • Shoot with the sun behind the photographer, not behind the group.
  • Use burst mode for jump shots on the beach.
  • Clean your lens. Salt air and sunscreen fingers are the number one blur cause.
  • Make a shared album on day one so nobody loses the good ones.
